Goodbye Teach...

Michael Crichton’s Sphere
That was the first book I truly read in school.
It opened up whole new worlds to me.
After that book, books became my best friends at home.
You gave me that book, Teacher Odette.
 I remember.

I walked into your library because you had air conditioning and my parents were picking me up late. You walked out from behind your Librarian station and asked if I wanted to check out a book. I think I said something about how I didn’t read. You walked over to the section near the door, next to the card catalogs – Science Fiction and Fantasy. You leaned down and pulled out Sphere. You told me to give it a try.

I came back to your library every single day after that.

You weren’t just my Librarian. You were my teacher. You were the mother of my best friend. You were a second mother to me.

You saw me grow up and were the first to state your approval or disapproval at my decisions or actions. You were always happy to see me, and I was always happy to see you.
I know it has been a tough battle.
I know your spirits never deterred.
I know you never stopped smiling.
I’ll miss you, Teacher Odette.
Rest now, you deserve it.

-Dime mi hijo!
-Hey Teach, aqui. Todo bien.
-Ay, ya no me digas teacher! Tengo años que no soy tu teacher!
You'll always be my 'teach'.
